Having trouble narrowing down this year’s crop of Emmy contenders to the seven that’ll earn Best Comedy Series nominations? Well, look no further than last year’s Top 24 Users, the two-dozen contest entrants who did the best predicting 2015’s Emmy nominations. They are now showcased in a league to forecast what will earn nominations on July 14. Scroll down to see their picks for Best Comedy Series and then make your own using our easy drag-and-drop menu at the bottom of this post.
1. “Veep” – 7/2 odds to earn nomination
HBO’s political laffer won Best Comedy Series last year for its fourth season, while stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale took home acting trophies. The timing couldn’t be better for “Veep” to earn back-to-back wins with it being an election year.
2. “Transparent” – 5/1 odds to earn nomination
Amazon’s family dramedy won five Emmys last year (including acting wins for Jeffrey Tambor and Bradley Whitford), but couldn’t clinch Best Comedy Series. Will its highly rated new season earn the first series trophy for a streaming network?
3. “Modern Family – 6/1 odds to earn nomination
In 2014, ABC’s “Modern Family” tied “Frasier” with the most series wins (5), but couldn’t break the record last year because it lost to “Veep.” With ratings still strong for this perennial family comedy, it would be a shock to see it left off the list of nominations.
4. “Silicon Valley” – 6/1 odds to earn nomination
This two-time nominee for Best Comedy Series will need to earn its first acting nomination if it wants to win the top trophy, but things are looking good for its third consecutive series bid.
5. “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” – 7/1 odds to earn nomination
Netflix’s laugh-out-loud show from Tina Fey and Robert Carlock earned seven Emmy noms last year including Best Comedy, but didn’t take home a single trophy. Will that change this year?
6. “Master of None” – 11/1 odds to earn nomination
Our Top 24 Users think that Netflix’s “Master of None” will take one of the open slots left behind by “Parks and Recreation” and “Louie.” And it’s for good reason, as Aziz Ansari‘s new show just won Best Comedy Series at the Critics’ Choice Awards.
7. “Mozart in the Jungle” – 28/1 odds to earn nomination
The Golden Globes’ reigning champ for Best Comedy/Musical is our Top 24 Users’ other pick to earn one of the open slots. But since “Mozart” was snubbed across the board last year by Emmy voters, will they open their arms for the show’s second season?
