Having trouble narrowing down this year’s crop of Emmy contenders to the six that’ll earn Best Drama Actor nominations? Well, look no further than last year’s Top 24 Users, the two-dozen contest entrants who did the best predicting 2015’s Emmy nominations. They are now showcased in a league to forecast who will earn nominations on July 14. Scroll down to see their picks for Best Drama Actor and then make your own using our easy drag-and-drop menu at the bottom of this post.
1. Kevin Spacey (“House of Cards“) – 10/3 odds to earn nomination
Spacey is an eight-time Emmy nominee, earning six bids for “House of Cards” (three acting, three producing), one for producing “Bernard and Doris” (2008) and one for acting in “Recount” (2008). Our Top 24 Users believe that the current buzz for Season 4 of “House of Cards” could finally propel him to a victory, particularly in this important election year.
2. Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul“) – 4/1 odds to earn nomination
Odenkirk is a two-time Emmy winner for Best Variety Writing (“The Ben Stiller Show” in 1993 and “Saturday Night Live” in 1989), but has yet to win for his acting. After losing to Jon Hamm (“Mad Men”) last year, might Season 2 be Odenkirk’s lucky charm for this “Breaking Bad” spinoff? Don’t forget, that parent show won a whopping nine Emmys for acting.
3. Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot“) – 9/2 odds to earn nomination
Our Top 24 Users believe this freshman star will earn his first Emmy nom after recent bids at the Critics’ Choice (for which he won), Golden Globes and SAG Awards for his role as a computer hacker with depression and social anxiety disorder.
4. Bobby Cannavale (“Vinyl“) – 15/2 odds to earn nomination
This four-time Emmy nominee and two-time winner (“Boardwalk Empire” in 2013 and “Will and Grace” in 2005) is my personal pick to win the Emmy, while our Top 24 Users currently have him in fourth place. Cannavale’s character is a 1970s record executive who has a midlife crisis that includes drinking, drugs, murder and music. It’ll be a tough performance to beat.
5. Liev Schreiber (“Ray Donovan“) – 8/1 odds to earn nomination
Last year’s surprise nominee Schreiber won’t be much of a shocker this time around, as our Top 24 Users put him in their fifth position. Besides his first Emmy nomination for “Ray Donovan” last year, he was also nominated for “RKO 281” back in 2000.
6. Paul Giamatti (“Billions“) – 16/1 odds to earn nomination
Rounding out their list, Giamatti is a strong contender for Showtime’s “Billions” because he’s one of Hollywood’s favorite actors. He won the Emmy for “John Adams” in 2008 and was also nominated three other times: “Inside Amy Schumer” (2015), “Downton Abbey” (2014) and “Too Big to Fail” (2011).
