Our forum posters are going nuts over the Television Academy’s decision to rescind Peter MacNicol‘s Emmy nomination as Best Comedy Guest Actor for his stint on “Veep.” Since this former “Ally McBeal” Emmy winner appeared in five of 10 “Veep” episodes this season, the academy informed Gold Derby on Wednesday that MacNicol was ineligible to contend in the guest star category. Tonbone: I hate this new rule the most. Screen time is not what qualifies someone as a guest star, it’s how their character fits in to the story. His character didn’t have that much screen time in the episodes he was in and didn’t interact with every main character. This is shameful.
KylieistBoi: This new rule is amazing and if you don’t like it you can take several sits.
patmcb: Yikes, this is a mess. I don’t think his nomination should’ve been revoked, though. Really s***** thing to do after the fact. I understand why they did it, but how unfortunate to think that you were nominated for an Emmy and then less than a week later … wait just kidding!
Andrew Carden: Nuts. Can anyone seriously make the argument, Emmy rules aside, that MacNicol was on the level of a Supporting Actor this season?
GusCruz: Meanwhile, leads Keegan-Michael Key, Allison Janney and Tituss Burgess are still in Supporting categories.
PianoMann: The Academy should have a) acknowledged the oversight and the overlapping timing of the ballots being released prior to the completion of filming/editing of “Veep,” and b) precluded him from being voted on as the winner, while allowing him to retain the honor of being a nominee, which was bestowed almost a week ago.
PoweR: How come it wasn’t caught before the nominations were announced? Who are these people who screen these things?
Rich Landry: Who do we think will replace him? I am thinking it may be Fred Armisen for “SNL.”
Atypical: Holla! Nominate Shoukath Ansari, plz.
Teridax: Now that he’s out, I guess I’m rooting for Tracy Morgan then? “Brian Fellowes! Brian Fellowes! BRIAN FELLOOOOWES!!!! Safari Planet!” It could be a nice I.O.U. not only for his awesome “SNL” years but also for his scene-stealing work on “30 Rock” as Tracy Jordan for which he never won an Emmy.
