The sixth season of “Game of Thrones” begins on Sunday (April 24). To whet our appetite, HBO has just released another jam-packed preview. In just two minutes, we get a look at some key moments in this sixth season.
The first scene is of Castle Black at dawn and we expect this to be how the first episode opens. Will we learn right away whether Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is still alive? Many of the other key players were left in peril at the end of season five. What is there fate to be?
King’s Landing promises to be a focal point of the action as Jaime and Cersei Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Lena Headey) plan to do battle against the High Sparrow (Jonathan Price). Tyrion Lannister, played by reigning Emmy champ Peter Dinklage, now has the dragons under his control and is in charge in Meereen while Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is back with the Dothraki.
Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) may need the help Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) to escape the Bolton soldiers. Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), who went blind in the season five finale, looks like she continues on her quest to kill her enemies. And there are a slew of skillfully cut shots of epic battles that don’t reveal the various players though we are told that in the days to come many of them will scale the walls of Braavos.
After four years as an Emmy also-ran, the show finally won Best Drama Series at last year’s Emmys. It set a new record with 12 awards in all, including wins for both directing and writing.
