Golden Globes: Our TV predictions contest leader dishes surprise wins for Maura Tierney, Rachel Bloom

“My favorite wins of the night were Maura Tierney and Rachel Bloom,” says Christopher Kolasa, Gold Derby’s top scorer predicting the 2015 Golden Globe TV winners. (See the full contest leaderboard right here.) Kolasa actually ties with five other readers who had 63.64% prediction accuracy — SnoopyJBK, BennyC, Hplummy68, EdwardTierney and ErnestoAlonzo — but he had the better point total of 14,055 by using his 500 and 200 point bets wisely. Since Kolasa is eligible, as per our contest rules, he wins our prize of a $100 Amazon gift certificate.

This reader hails from New Jersey where he’s “been following Gold Derby for many, many years,” he tells us. “But it’s just the last few that I stopped being just a lurker and joined officially. My goal is to do well — never thought I’d ever come in first!”

Kolasa correctly predicted seven winners across 11 categories, including hard-to-call races like “Mozart in the Jungle” for Best Comedy Series, Bloom (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) for Best Comedy Actress, Lady Gaga (“American Horror Story: Hotel”) for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress and Oscar Isaac (“Show Me a Hero) for Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actor.

As for his favorite TV winners Tierney and Bloom, Kolasa admits, “‘The Affair’ is my favorite show on TV and she has been the highlight of all TV the past two years to me. ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ is such a funny, different show. And Rachel is so talented. I loved the Gold Derby chat you all did with her.”

Lady Gaga was my 500 point bet,” he continues. “I chose her because the Globes like Ryan Murphy productions and having Gaga there on stage is a big deal. And say what you will about it, but her role is flashy and out there.”

Kolasa concludes, “My 200 point went to Bloom. It’s a musical comedy, they love those! It’s a first year show, they love those! They obviously must have seen the show to pick her out of nowhere to be nominated. And they like picking TV winners that are off the beaten path. My other 200 bet went to Issac. This was such an ‘anyone could win’ category, I went with him because he has had a great couple of years.”
