What did you think of this morning’s Gotham Award nominations? Bestowed by the Independent Filmmaker Project, the Gotham Awards have honored the best achievements in independent film for the last 25 years and have recently anointed such Oscar champs as “The Hurt Locker” (2009), “Birdman” (2014) and “Spotlight” (2015).
This year “Manchester by the Sea” is the top film with four nominations, including Best Feature, Best Actor (Casey Affleck), Breakthrough Actor (Lucas Hedges) and Best Screenplay (Kenneth Lonergan). But some of our forum posters are more excited about key nominations for “Love and Friendship,” “Moonlight” and TV nominee “The Girlfriend Experience.” Will they win when the awards are handed out on Monday, November 28, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York?
Read some of our posters’ comments below, and join the discussion in our forums.
Sasha: “These nominations are absolutely delightful! And Best Actress line-up is the one to die for. Loves it! And look who’s nominated. That’s right. You’re gonna see [Kate Beckinsale] nominated for a lot of awards this season cause she fucking deserves it. Slay them, Dame Kate!”
jacob121: “Not really on topic for the movie forums but thrilled to finally see the brilliant The Girlfriend Experience nominated for something.”
AMG: “Love the guaranteed win for Moonlight’s ensemble. I don’t think much of its Oscar chances, but SAG have got to embrace such a terrific ensemble!”
13SV8: “‘Moonlight’ and ‘Manchester by the Sea’ can still get snubbed [at the Oscars] just like ‘Carol.'”
