“Practicing the law, you don’t go on instinct. You wait, you listen, and watch. Eventually, everyone reveals themself,” advises Christine Baranski’s Diane Lockhart in the first trailer for the new CBS All Access series “The Good Fight.” Billed as a continuation of the seven-season story of its predecessor “The Good Wife,” this spinoff picks up one year later, with Diane’s goddaughter Maia (Rose Leslie, “Game of Thrones”) embroiled in a financial scam that has destroyed her reputation as a lawyer and Diane’s life savings. As the star of the spinoff, Baranski could become a major awards contender for continuing to portray Diane, a role that has already nabbed her six Emmy Award, four Critics Choice Television Award, and three ensemble Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Her“Good Wife” co-stars Cush Jumbo and Sarah Steele have signed on as series regulars, with Zach Grenier, Jerry Adler, and Emmy-winner Carrie Preston already slated to reprise their roles in guest appearances. New cast member include Delroy Lindo, Paul Guilfoyle, Bernadette Peters, Justin Bartha, and Erica Tazel.
Robert King and Michelle King, fresh off an Emmy nomination for writing the series finale of “The Good Wife,” have penned the first episode of “The Good Fight” and will serve as showrunners and executive producers. “The Good Fight” will premiere simultaneously on CBS and CBS All Access on Sunday, Feb. 19.
