“Let me ask you a question: You’re white, are you voting for Trump?” ask Jon Stewart of a pony that Samantha Bee gifted him in the June 6 episode of “Full Frontal.” Stewart dropped by for a cameo appearance on the TBS political talk show (watch it above) to poke fun at his own life as a “massage farmer” after his “Daily Show” retirement.
Bee launched “Full Frontal” earlier this year to rave reviews after 12 years as a correspondent on “The Daily Show” (2003-2015). She’s one of several “Daily Show” alumni to land their own talk show in recent years, including John Oliver (“Last Week Tonight”), Stephen Colbert (“The Colbert Report” and now “The Late Show”), Larry Wilmore (“The Nightly Show”) and, of course, Stewart’s “Daily Show” successor Trevor Noah.
But Bee is one of the few women to break onto late-night’s male dominated landscape. Given the raves for her show and a renewal by TBS that will take her through this contentious election season, she could also be a formidable contender at the Emmys, where 11-time Best Variety Series winner Stewart has left a big vacancy.
Bee clearly has Stewart’s seal of approval. She won’t be able to submit this episode in this year’s Emmy contest (the deadline was May 31), but maybe some of his old Emmy magic may rub off on her when voters start filling out their ballots on June 13.
