‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ wins Best Costume Design Oscar

As predicted, “Mad Max: Fury Road” won Best Costume Design at the Oscars on Sunday. This film was Gold Derby’s frontrunner with odds of 8/11 to prevail. This is the second Oscar for costumer Jenny Beavan, who previously won for “A Room with a View” (1985).

Our official odds are derived from the predictions of 28 Expert film journalists along with our seven in-house Editors who cover awards year-round, the Top 24 Users who got the top scores predicting last year’s Oscars, the All-Star Users who did the best for the past two years combined and the thousands of entrants in our prediction contest who make up the largest (and often savviest) bloc of predictors.

Thirteen of our 28 experts thought “Mad Max” would prevail: Joyce Eng (TV Guide), Pete Hammond (Deadline Hollywood), Dave Karger (Fandango), Scott Mantz (Access Hollywood), Jack Mathews (Gold Derby), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Christopher Rosen (Entertainment Weekly), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), Keith Simanton (IMDB), Nicole Sperling (EW), Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood), Brian Truitt (USA Today) and Adnan Virk (ESPN).

The 11 experts backing “Cinderella” were: Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Edward Douglas (Weekend Warrior), Tim Gray (Variety), Michael Hogan (Vanity Fair), Matthew Jacobs (Huffington Post), Tariq Khan (Fox New), Michael Musto (Out.com), Kevin Polowy (Yahoo), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Glenn Whipp (Los Angeles Times) and Susan Wloszczyna (RogerEbert.com).

And the four experts who thought “Carol” would win were: Matt Atchity (Rotten Tomatoes), Piya Sinha-Roy (Reuters), Sasha Stone (Awards Daily) and Jeff Wells (Hollywood-Elsewhere).

Among the seven editors, all seven were forecasting “Mad Max”: Chris Beachum, Marcus James Dixon, Rob Licuria, Daniel Montgomery, Matt Noble, Tom O’Neil and Paul Sheehan.

Also predicting “Mad Max” to win were 14 of our Top 24 Users. As for the others, six went for “Cinderella,” two for “Carol” and two for “The Danish Girl.”

And 14 of our 24 of our All-Star Users predicted “Mad Max.” Meanwhile, seven of the others chose “Cinderella,” two forecasted “Carol” and one opted for “The Danish Girl.”
