A special luncheon and panel celebrating the Women of Netflix called “The Rebels and Rule Breakers of Netflix” was held for prospective Emmy voters this weekend. Gold Derby was on the red carpet at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and interviewed several panel participants, including the streaming service’s Head of Programming Cindy Holland, “Grace and Frankie” creator Marta Kauffman, “Master of None” star Lena Waithe, “Making a Murderer” directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Carol Kane from “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and SAG/AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris.
Kauffman took home a Best Comedy Series Emmy for “Friends” (2002). Kohan scored an Emmy as one of the producers on variety series “Tracy Takes On…” (1997). Kane received an Academy Award nomination for her lead role in “Hester Street” (1975) and reaped two Emmys for her role as Simka Dahblitz on “Taxi.”
Other panelists included two-time Oscar champ Jane Fonda from “Grace and Frankie,” “Orange is the New Black” creator Jenji Kohan and star Laura Prepon, Krysten Ritter of “Jessica Jones,” “Chef’s Table” director Abby Fuller and subject Chef Dominique Crenn, “Chelsea” host Chelsea Handler, and Oscar-winning producer Cathy Schulman (“Crash”), Board President of Women in Film.
