Oscars 2017 calendar updated: New York Film Critics Circle announces winners on Dec. 1

The New York Film Critics Circle has announced that it will meet on Dec. 1 to decide the winners of its awards. This is the same day that the Critics’ Choice Awards already had staked out to reveal its nominees. While the Gotham crowd dates back to 1935, when “The Informer” won its inaugural prize, the Broadcast Film Critics Assn. has only been handing out prizes since 1995; “Sense and Sensibility” was the big winner that year.

While the NYFCC awards ceremony won’t take place till Jan. 3 (the day before the National Board of Review dinner), the Critics’ Choice Awards are scheduled for Dec. 11. That is the day before the Golden Globe nominations are revealed, with those awards set for Jan. 8.

Oscar nomination ballots go online three days before that, on Jan. 5, and voting runs for nine days till Jan. 13. The announcement of the nominations for the 89th annual Academy Awards will be on Jan. 24, 2017.

Below, we detail these key dates.
