Chris Rock took his second turn as emcee of the Oscars on February 28; he previously hosted the event in February 2005, so the telecast producers and the academy had some idea of what they were getting. But it’s always a calculated risk when an entertainer is tapped for the gig for the first time. Will they soar (Hugh Jackman in 2009)? Will they sink (James Franco and Anne Hathaway in 2011)? Or will they perhaps fall somewhere in-between?

Boidiva02: I’ve always wanted them to pick somebody like Cher or Bette Midler. I can imagine either of them would be incredible at hosting the Oscars. But for somebody with an actual chance, I’d love Amy Poehler and Tina Fey to host. Or Sarah Silverman.
Ain’t No Elitist: Well a couple of names did come to mind: Kevin Spacey — roots in comedy and a fine impressionist. Hugh Laurie — has roots in comedy (his partnership with frequent BAFTA host Stephen Fry), has musical abilities (can perform his own musical numbers like Hugh Jackman did).
ColinWesley: Donald Trump with Chris Christie standing behind him … I always thought Tom Hanks would be a solid host. He’s funny when he wants to be, but doesn’t have to be to charm a crowd.
WildforFilm: Queen Latifah! Seriously, she’s hilarious and would be a great host.
