Mad Max: Fury Road” is the frontrunner with odds of 5/4 to win Best Visual Effects at the Oscars on Sunday. However, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which won this race at the BAFTA Film Awards and took home four trophies at the Visual Effects Society Awards, is nipping at its heels with 27/20 odds.

Our official odds are derived from the predictions of 26 Expert film journalists along with our seven in-house Editors who cover awards year-round, the Top 24 Users who got the top scores predicting last year’s Oscars, the All-Star Users who did the best for the past two years combined and the thousands of entrants in our prediction contest who make up the largest (and often savviest) bloc of predictors.

Fourteen of our 26 experts thinks “Mad Max” will prevail: Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Matt Atchity (Rotten Tomatoes), Edward Douglas (Weekend Warrior), Michael Hogan (Vanity Fair), Matthew Jacobs (Huffington Post), Tariq Khan (Fox New), Scott Mantz (Access Hollywood), Michael Musto (Out.com), Christopher Rosen (Entertainment Weekly), Keith Simanton (IMDB), Brian Truitt (USA Today), Adnan Virk (ESPN), Glenn Whipp (Los Angeles Times) and Susan Wloszczyna (RogerEbert.com).

And three experts back Best Picture frontrunner “The Revenant“: Jack Mathews (Gold Derby), Kevin Polowy (Yahoo) and Jeff Wells (Hollywood Elsewhere).

Among the seven editors, Marcus James Dixon, Rob Licuria, Matt Noble, Tom O’Neil and Paul Sheehan predict “Star Wars,” Chris Beachum forecasts “Mad Max” and Daniel Montgomery goes out on a limb for “The Revenant.”
