Oscar predictions slugfest: Would DGA win for ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ transform Best Picture race? (Video)

In our latest Gold Derby editors’ slugfest (watch above), our team panics over this weekend’s upcoming Directors Guild Awards and how they will affect the Oscars. “The Big Short” took the Producers Guild of America prize for Best Picture, and “Spotlight” won Best Ensemble at the SAG Awards. However, according to our racetrack odds, the DGA Award is predicted to go to George Miller (“Mad Max: Fury Road“), with Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (“The Revenant“) right behind him. If so, how will that affect an already uncertain Best Picture contest?

Watch Gold Derby editors Tom O’Neil, Paul Sheehan, Chris BeachumMarcus James Dixon and Daniel Montgomery come out swinging in our riotous predictions video above. They also anticipate the BAFTA Awards, where “The Revenant” looms large and actors like Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl” and “Ex Machina“) and Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies“) could still shake up the acting races. Then be sure to have your say in our forums, where Hollywood insiders hide behind cyber handles.
