Oscar screeners: EuropaCorp sends ‘Miss Sloane,’ a showcase for Jessica Chastain

EuropaCorp just sent Oscar voters DVD screeners of John Madden‘s riveting political thriller “Miss Sloane,” which opened last month to rave reviews. Much of the praise was lavished on Jessica Chastain who plays the title character, a ruthless political lobbyist who values winning above all else, but she also hates guns, so she takes on a seemingly impossible campaign to pass gun-control legislation. She’s a crusader, but she’s more antihero than hero, resorting to corrupt tactics to get her way. And critics love her for it. They call Chastain a “one-woman force of nature” who delivers a “tour de force” and “picks the part clean to the bone.”

Sloane has been compared to another famous Chastain character: Maya, the similarly dogged and determined CIA operative who helped track down Osama Bin Laden in “Zero Dark Thirty” (2012). Chastain earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination for that role, which followed her Best Supporting Actress bid for her breakthrough performance in “The Help” (2011). Will the third time be the charm for the actress?

To date, 34 films have been delivered. Below, a list of these titles with the most recent first.
