Oscar screeners: 20th Century Fox sends ‘Hidden Figures’ with Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer & Janelle Monae

20th Century Fox just sent Oscar voters screeners of “Hidden Figures,” which tells the little-known story of three African American women who were instrumental in the success of the early days of the NASA space program. Directed with a deft hand by Theodore Melfi (“St. Vincent”), this feel-good flick stars Golden Globe winner Taraji P. Henson (“Empire”) as Katherine Johnson, Oscar winner  Octavia Spencer (“The Help) as Dorothy Vaughan and Grammy champ Janelle Monae as Mary Jackson.

This trio worked as “computers,” people who had to do complicated math on paper and blackboards to assist the male-dominated team of scientists and engineers. Oscar champ Kevin Costner (“Dances with Wolves”) plays the gruff director of the space program while four-time Emmy winner Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang Theory”) is an engineer who does battle with Johnson.
