In this edition of their weekly “Outlander” recap (watch above), Gold Derby editor Rob Licuria and contributing Amanda Spears dissect episode 6, “Best Laid Schemes,” directed by Metin Hüseyin and written by Matthew B. Roberts. The plot continues to thicken in Paris. The beloved Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) is finally let in on the truth about Claire (Caitriona Balfe) being from the future. And we also see the climactic and violent duel between arch rivals Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) in the woods outside Paris. The episode ends focused on a heavily pregnant Claire, who has collapsed in agony.
“I think it is getting better and better,” proclaims Licuria. “We are now hitting that point in this season where a lot of really great shows seem to hit their stride, at around episode five or six. You get to the end of the episode and you desperately need to watch the next one.” Spears, who is already privy to the events of the next episode agrees. “It was a pretty decent episode as it is kind of setting up future episodes.”
Licuria and Spears agree that Lacroix was a real highlight. “The MVP, using a sports term, for this episode was Dominic Lacroix as Murtagh. He is such a great character, but I just felt that I just wanted to give him a big hug in this episode,” declares Licuria, with Spears adding, “I loved Murtagh in this episode. He’s the first one that methodically thought out that she has lived all of these years. He was trying to wrap his head around it in a way that I didn’t think his character would, which I thought was a nice twist.”
