“Hello, I’m Katharine Hepburn, one of the greatest actresses of all time, and this is my audition for the role of Bugs Bunny in the movie ‘Space Jam,'” says a youthful Rachel Bloom in her never-before-seen audition tape for “Saturday Night Live.” Bloom released the footage on her personal Instagram page late Thursday evening with the message, “The people have asked and I have answered.” Watch the fun audition below.
While Bloom didn’t net that “SNL” gig, things still went pretty well for the breakout creator and star of CW’s “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” After winning a Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award as Best Actress for the musical comedy, Bloom’s show went on to earn four Emmy nominations — for comparison’s sake, that’s the same number “Modern Family” reaped this year.
Bloom may have missed out on an Emmy nom for Best Comedy Actress, yet she scored her second and third career nominations for writing the main title theme and one of the songs, “Settle for Me.” (She had competed last year as one of the producers on the short-form animated series “Robot Chicken.”) Bloom shares both bids with Adam Schlesinger, a two-time Emmy champ for his original music and lyrics on the 65th and 66th Tony Awards.
“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” is also up for Best Choreography and Best Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series at this year’s Emmy Awards. Watch our exclusive webchat with the show’s choreographer Kathryn Burns right here.
