In a way it’s fitting that Dakota Johnson (“Fifty Shades of Grey“) leads our combined predictions for Worst Actress at the Razzie Awards. Her mother Melanie Griffith is a past Worst Actress winner and a six-time nominee. What’s more, “Fifty Shades” started out as “Twilight” fan fiction, and “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart recently won one of her three Worst Actress nominations as Bella in the “Twilight” franchise.
We’ve polled Expert film journalists, Editors who cover awards year-round for Gold Derby, the Top 24 Users who got the highest scores predicting last year’s Razzie winners and hundreds of total Users who make up our largest and often savviest bloc of predictors.
All seven experts predicting the Razzies are betting on Johnson: Matt Atchity (Rotten Tomatoes), Edward Douglas (Weekend Warrior), Tariq Khan (Fox News), Tom O’Neil (Gold Derby), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone) and Adnan Virk (ESPN).
Our editors are also unanimous. All six of us are predicting Johnson: Chris Beachum, Marcus Dixon, Rob Licuria, O’Neil, Sheehan and myself.
Johnson also has the lead according to our Top 24 Users, but they’re not unanimous. Seventeen forecast a win for the “Fifty Shades” star, but another four think the award will go to Jennifer Lopez (“The Boy Next Door“), who won this award once (“Gigli”) out of four previous bids. One more top user says it will be Gwyneth Paltrow (“Mortdecai“), who contends for the first time.
None of our experts, editors or top users are predicting the remaining two nominees: Katherine Heigl (“Home Sweet Hell“) or Mila Kunis (“Jupiter Ascending“). This is the third Razzie nom for Heigl and the first for Kunis. Neither has won before.
