“The next three days I was recovering,” reveals the latest “Survivor: Kaoh Rong” castoff Joseph Del Campo to Gold Derby (listen above) about his medical evacuation on Day 34 due to ingesting too much meat while on the reward. “It had done some damage to me in trying to get rid of all the meat, so to speak. It was a lot of discomfort, but I was okay.”
So, has Joe eaten any meat in the months since the show wrapped? “Oh yes, yes, yes I have!” exclaims the fifth-place finisher. Had he stayed in the game, ex-FBI Agent Joe isn’t sure who would have gone home next — Michele Fitzgerald, Tai Trang, Aubry Bracco or Cydney Gillon — though he admits that he was “totally open to see what was gonna happen.”
Going back to the beginning, Joe explains, “I actually applied in 2000 for Borneo, but I did not get selected, Rudy Boesch did. We became friends in 2014, so he inspired me to send in a tape. He said, ‘Joe, they haven’t had someone on since me that’s over 70. I think they’ll like you.’ So I made the tape and obviously it worked out. I was very, very excited about it.”
Also in our exit interview, Joe tells us how his appearance on the show made him aware of new family members, what his greatest moments were, and what advice he’d like to give to other 71-year-olds out there.
