Premiering this Friday, the 28th season of “The Amazing Race” begins with eleven teams of two each featuring at least one Internet celebrity. Given the contestants’ high profile status as online entertainers, this season of TAR feels a lot like a celebrity reality show, similar to “Dancing with the Stars” in terms of participant recognition.
With that in mind, what better way to begin our season-long coverage of the show than to assess the pros & cons of the pre-season favorites based on what we already know about them. Be sure to make your “The Amazing Race” predictions now and you could in our prize of a $100 Amazon gift certificate. It’s fun and easy, so start now by scrolling down and predicting who will be voted out first.

Tyler Oakley and Korey Kuhl: 12/5 odds to win
Tyler & Korey are YouTube personalities, having worked previously together in the video diary series “5AwesomeGays” and on their own channels as well. Combined odds currently rank the duo as the most likely to win.
Pros: Known for their high energy and positive attitudes, Tyler & Korey are likely to work well together, suffering very few, if any, setbacks due to drama. They’ve known each other for many years so will have established both a personal and professional relationship that works well for them. Expect communication to be a strong point.
Cons: As one of the most popular YouTubers in the competition, Tyler may be a target of the other teams especially when U-Turns are in play. Though four “best friends” pairings—as Tyler & Korey are deemed this year—have won before, it hasn’t happened since BJ and Tyler in season 9.
Zach and Rachel King: 4/1 odds to win
Zach is best known for his YouTube videos of lightsaber-fighting cats and “magical” Vine videos and Rachel is his wife. Combined odds currently rank the couple as second most likely to win.
Pros: Zach’s social media presence suggests he’s a creative thinker, a quality that will help with the puzzle and critical thinking challenges along the way.
Cons: As newlyweds, Zach & Rachel may still be finding the right balance in their relationship, something that is typical of newlyweds. Statistically, no team designated as “newlyweds” has ever won.
Burnie Burns and Ashley Jenkins: 8/1 odds to win
Co-hosts of the YouTube series “Rooster Teeth,” Burnie & Ashley are currently dating. Burnie has parlayed his social media success into a full-fledged career in the video and film production industry. Combined odds currently rank the couple as tied for third most likely to win, but they’re also predicted as the most likely to be eliminated in the first leg with 13/8 odds in that contest.
Pros: “Dating” is the most successful relationship on TAR. Last season, two top 3 finishers were dating couples, one of which (Kelsey & Joey) won making them the sixth daters to win. Burnie’s career suggests an ambitious approach to life that if translated into gameplay could help the team make the aggressive moves it could take to win.
Cons: Aggressive or underhanded moves could also turn the other teams against Burnie & Ashley, making them a target for U-Turns. Gold Derby users have already pegged the team as most likely to be the target of the other teams for a U-Turn with 10/1 odds of it happening in the first episode.
Dana Borriello and Matt Steffanina: 9/1 odds to win
Engaged YouTubers and choreographers, Dana & Matt are best known for Matt’s dance online tutorials. Combined odds currently have the team tied for third most likely to win and third most likely to win the first leg.
Pros: As choreographers, Dana & Matt will be among the most physically fit of the teams, an attribute that most TAR finalists share. As an “engaged” team, they join a tradition of other engaged couples that have done fairly well in the past—the last to win were Ernie & Cindy in season 19.
Cons: If seen as a physical threat, the other teams could align against them and target them for U-Turns.
