Best Picture
Our Oscar experts have “The Revenant” as their #3 pick to win Best Picture with 8/1 odds, behind frontrunners “Spotlight” (9/2 odds) and “The Martian” (8/1 odds).

Best Director
Oscar’s reigning directing champ Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (“Birdman”) has 11/2 odds to repeat according to our experts. That’s good enough for fourth place in their Best Director rankings, well behind Ridley Scott (“The Martian”) who leads with 27/10 odds.

Best Actor
DiCaprio is the clear Oscar frontrunner for playing bear-attack survivor Hugh Glass. In fact, all 24 experts predict he will win his first Oscar, which translates to leading 3/2 odds. See right-hand chart.

Best Cinematography
Cinematographer Lubezki has claimed the past two Oscars in a row — “Birdman” and “Gravity” — out of seven previous nominations. And now our experts predict him to three-peat as he has leading 19/10 odds to win this year’s battle as well.

Best Film Editing
Editor Stephen Mirrione has won one Oscar (“Traffic”) out of two previous nominations. While our experts give the edge for Best Editing to “Mad Max: Fury Road” (13/5 odds), “The Revenant” still comes in third place with 9/2 odds.

Best Makeup/Hairstyling
“Mad Max: Fury Road” is predicted to lead the trio of nominees for makeup/hair in first place with 13/10 odds, followed by “Black Mass” and “The Revenant” which are tied at 9/2 odds apiece according to our experts.

Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing
“The Revenant” is in third place to win Sound Editing at 5/1 odds and third place for Sound Mixing with odds of 11/2. Meanwhile, our experts give the edge to “Mad Max: Fury Road” to take home both of these sound categories.
