Updated Tony Awards 2017 calendar: Six new productions join season

Last month, six new Broadway productions announced that they will be joining the already-bountiful 2016-17 season. The calendar below details the opening dates for each of the 34 productions bowing prior to or on the April 27, 2017 Tony eligibility cut-off date. Tony nominations will be announced on May 2 and the 71st Annual Tony Awards ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS on June 11.

With the possibility of even more productions joining the season, the current line-up now consists of 12 musicals, 9 play revivals, 8 plays, and 5 musical revivals. Last season featured 36 Tony-eligible productions, including 11 musicals, 11 play revivals, 9 plays, and 5 musical revivals.

Additions to the calendar have been noted in italics, while the previously-announced revival of “Burn This,” slated to star Jake Gyllenhaal, has been removed from the calendar due to the star’s scheduling conflicts.

Throughout the season, the 24-member Tony administration committee will attend each of these productions and determine their eligibility in specific categories. Thus far, the committee has met once to rule on the eligibility of Cirque du Soleil’s “Paramour” and the revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats.”
