The TV academy has announced the 2017 Daytime Emmy pre-nominations for its six drama series acting categories, and “The Young and the Restless” is once again on top with 19 citations. However, its total is down from last year.

Pre-nominees in the lead and supporting races were determined by eligible peer judges, who were required to view sample performance clips of each entrant in those categories before voting for their top 10 through an online judging ballot. The younger-acting categories skipped this step; all entrants in those races proceed directly to the Blue Ribbon Round, where voters will view episode submissions of the pre-nominees to determine both the final nominees and the winner.
Though daytime’s top-rated soap “Y&R” leads the way, it has lost some ground. This year it has 19 pre-nominations, but in 2016 it was pre-nominated 23 times, with 10 of those going on to secure official nominations (43%). And in 2015 it had 22 pre-nominations, with eight actors advancing to the main event (35%).

“Days of Our Lives” is next in line with 15 pre-nominations, which is also down significantly from last year when it had 20 pre-nominees. Only five of those actors ended up with nominations (25%).
“General Hospital” is the only show to improve its year-to-year pre-nominations total. It has 14 actors cited, compared to 13 last year. But it also had by far the highest success rate converting pre-nominations to actual nominations last year: 10 out of 13 pre-nominees advanced to the final round (77%).
“The Bold and the Beautiful” is in last place with nine pre-nominations, matching last year’s total. But five of those pre-nominees made the final cut last year (56%), the second best success rate for a soap.
