2017 Emmy ballot: See all 99 Variety Special contenders from ’10th Annual ACM Honors’ to ‘Wonderful World Of Disney: Magical Holiday Celebration’

From the earliest days of television, variety specials have been a staple of programming. While the TV academy dropped the individual performance award in 2008, the program prize remains one of the most competitive of the Emmys. Two years ago, 62 variety specials were submitted for Emmy consideration. That jumped up to 75 last year and this year is just one shy of three figures. These 99 variety specials are competing for five slots when nominations are announced on July 13.

All 21,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their ballots for their favorite variety specials. In the past, voters were limited in the number of such shows that they could put forth; this year that cap (which was usually 10 per category) has been lifted. Unlike the Oscars, Emmy voters do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

While both types of variety series (talk and sketch) are simply listed on the ballot by name, the 99 entries for variety specials each has an air date and description.
