The 2017 Primetime Emmys telecast is just a few days away. The event, hosted for the first time by nine-time Emmy winner Stephen Colbert, will present the last 27 of this year’s prizes, most of which were already handed out at Creative Arts Awards ceremonies held last weekend on September 9 and September 10. Thousands of users have come to Gold Derby to make their Emmy picks for a chance to win our predictions contest, and our official racetrack odds are based on their combined forecasts. They include Expert TV journalists from top media outlets like Variety and Entertainment Weekly, Gold Derby’s Editors who cover awards year-round, our Top 24 Users who got the best scores predicting the 2016 Emmy winners, the All-Star Top 24 who got the best scores when you combine the last two years’ Emmy results, and of course the thousands of everyday Users who make up our largest predictions bloc.
These Emmys may be especially tough to forecast. “Game of Thrones” is the two-time defending champ for Best Drama, but it didn’t air any new episodes in time for this awards cycle, so it’s sitting this one out. In its place are a number of new, buzzworthy shows including “Stranger Things,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and “This is Us.” There is also a voting system that has changed drastically in the last two years, so old trends may not apply.
