The Emmy Awards will be handed out during three ceremonies, on September 9 and 10 (Creative Arts) and then September 17 (primetime telecast). But forget about those! The people who really know television — our awards-watchers at Gold Derby — will be deciding the best of the best at the 14th Annual Gold Derby TV Awards, and time is running out for you to take part. Voting ends on Sunday night, September 3, so get your votes in as soon as you can by entering our predictions center right here. And if you’ve already voted but are having second thoughts, you can go in and edit your ballot as often as you like before the deadline. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, September 6, at 7:00pm Eastern/4:00pm Pacific.
“This is Us” is the leading program with nine nominations including Best Drama Series and Best Drama Actor (Sterling K. Brown), but fellow freshman show “Stranger Things” is right behind it with seven nominations, as is “The Leftovers,” which ended its run this spring after three emotional seasons. We’re guaranteed to have a new winner for Best Drama as the two-time defending champion, “Game of Thrones,” didn’t have any new episodes during the eligibility period.
In the comedy races, “Veep” also has nine nominations. It’s hoping to defend its Best Comedy Series title after winning for the first time in 2016. And two limited series are tied with eight bids apiece, “Big Little Lies” and “Feud: Bette and Joan,” so those might be the shows to beat in the longform races, though fans of “Fargo” (six nominations) and “The Night Of” (three nominations) might turn out in large numbers as well.
