Hey, Oscar voters: Final ballots due by 5 p.m. PT on Feb. 21

Oscar voters only have till 5 p.m. PT on Tuesday, Feb. 21 to complete their final ballots online or get them to the post office. The 6,687 members of the academy who have retained their full voting rights as per a recent review have had since last Monday (Feb. 13) to make their choices in 24 competitive categories.

All members were asked to rank the nine nominees for Best Picture and choose one nominee in each of the other 23 races (all of these have five contenders but for Makeup & Hairstyling which has three). While the Best Picture winner will be chosen by a complicated counting method, the others are determined by a simple popular vote.

Final voting kicked off 20 days after the nominations were announced on Jan. 24, and ran for eight days (Last year, the gap till final voting began was 29 days and that then lasted 12 days from Feb. 12 to Feb. 23).

The 89th annual edition of these kudos will take place on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2017. This means the countdown from nominations to winners will be 35 days; that is down from 45 days last year.
