2018 Grammy nominations predictions in the general field: Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran …

The 2018 Grammy nominations will be announced on Tuesday morning, November 28, starting with the top four general field categories at 8:30am Eastern on “CBS This Morning.” The complete list of nominees in dozens more categories will subsequently be announced on Grammy.com at 8:45am Eastern. At that time the Grammys will also host a nominations conversation on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. But who will those nominees be? Scroll down for our complete predictions in the general field, ranked in order of their racetrack odds. Projected winners are in gold.

The general field categories — Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist — are the top prizes that award the best in music across all genres, though the recording academy tends to prefer bestselling pop and rock acts like past winners Adele, Taylor Swift, and Mumford and Sons. But there could be a shakeup this year thanks to Kendrick Lamar‘s critically lauded album “Damn,” which could become only the second rap album to claim Album of the Year, following “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” by OutKast in 2004.

The nominations are determined by the votes of the entire recording academy, which are then narrowed down by nomination review committees that make the final selections. Meanwhile, Gold Derby’s official predictions are calculated by combining the picks of more than 1,000 users, including Expert journalists, Gold Derby Editors who cover awards year-round, the Top 24 Users who got the highest scores predicting last year’s Grammy nominations, the All-Star Top 24 who got the highest scores when you combine the last two years’ nominations, and the everyday Users who make up the largest and oftentimes smartest predictions bloc.
