“American Horror Story” has added another star to its lineup for season seven: comedian Billy Eichner. According to our sister site Deadline, Eichner is joining the “AHS” roster for the first time, alongside returning cast members Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, who have already been announced for the show. The new season of “AHS” is connected to the 2016 US presidential election, and Eichner will recur in multiple episodes as a confidante of Paulson’s character. The new season begins shooting in May.
Eichner is better known for comedy than horror. He rose to fame as the host of his game show/sketch comedy “Billy on the Street” in which he roams New York City ambushing pedestrians with pop culture trivia questions, often joined by special guests like Tina Fey, Julianne Moore and Anna Kendrick. He earned two Emmy nominations for the series: Best Game Show Host at the Daytime Emmys in 2013 and Best Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program for a special episode on nutrition featuring former first lady Michelle Obama and Big Bird from “Sesame Street.” Eichner is also known for his recurring role in “Parks and Recreation” and his current starring role in Hulu’s comedy series “Difficult People.”
“American Horror Story” typically features numerous returning cast members like Paulson and Peters, but has also welcomed newcomers in memorable roles, including Lady Gaga in her Golden Globe winning performance as a vampire in season five, “Hotel.” The most recent season of the anthology horror series, subtitled “Roanoke,” premiered last fall and hopes to add to the groundbreaking show’s Emmy tally. “AHS” has won 15 awards for its first five seasons, but it’s still awaiting its first victory for Best Limited Series.
