‘American Horror Story: Cult’: Was it the scariest season of ‘AHS’? [POLL]

American Horror Story: Cult” just wrapped up with a a jaw-dropping finale. It was the seventh season of Ryan Murphy‘s franchise that has proven to be both a ratings and Emmy winner for FX. Indeed, the first six seasons of “AHS” have reaped 81 Emmy nominations and 15 wins, including two for Jessica Lange.

While awards are nice, the real measure of success for the series is the number of goosebumps it raised. After reading our recaps of the seven installments be sure to vote in our poll as to which was the scariest. And sound off in the comments section on “Cult” as well as the other six seasons.

“Murder House” (Season 1)
Dates: October 5 – December 21, 2011

Cast: Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Denis O’Hare, Jessica Lange

Plot: This stand-alone limited series told the story of Dr. Ben Harmon (McDermott), his wife Vivien (Britton) and their daughter Violet (Farmiga), who move from Boston to Los Angeles after Ben has an affair and Vivien has a miscarriage. They move into a restored mansion, unaware that it is haunted.

“Asylum” (Season 2)
Dates: October 17, 2012 – January 23, 2013

Cast: Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Joseph Fiennes, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, James Cromwell,

Plot: Two nuns (Lange, Rabe) run a mental institution founded by a priest (Fiennes). A psychiatrist (Quinto), and scientist (Cromwell), treat the patients including a journalist (Paulson) and accused serial killer (Peters).

“Coven” (Season 3)
Dates: October 9, 2013 – January 29, 2014

Cast: Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Emma Roberts, Denis O’Hare

Plot: A young girl (Farmiga) is sent to a school in New Orleans run by a fearsome headmistress (Paulson) who is controlled by her mother (Lange) and her dutiful butler (O’Hare). She befriends a fellow student (Roberts) with telekinetic powers and a fraternity man (Peters).

“Freak Show” (Season 4)
Dates: October 8, 2014 – January 21, 2015

Cast: Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Michael Chiklis, Frances Conroy, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts, Denis O’Hare, Finn Wittrock

Plot: The owner of a struggling freak show (Lange) hires conjoined twin sisters (Paulson) to join a troupe that includes a bearded lady (Bates), her lobster-handed son (Peters), a strongman (Chiklis) and his wife (Bassett).

“Hotel” (Season 5)
Dates: October 7, 2015 – January 13, 2016

Cast: Lady Gaga, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, Chloe Sevigny

Plot: Staff and residents of a 90-year-old hotel include an ageless woman (Lady Gaga), her lover (Bomer), his mother (Bates), a vengeful ex (Bassett).

“Roanoake” (Season 6)
Dates: September 14 – November 16, 2016

Cast: Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Cuba Gooding Jr., Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson, Lily Rabe, André Holland, Adina Porter

Plot: A documentary tells the story of a couple (Rabe, Holland) and his sister (living in a haunted North Carolina farm by using actors (Pauls, Gooding, Bassett) to play them as well as colonists (Bates, Bentley) and previous owners of the farm (Peters, O’Hare).

“Cult” (Season 7)
Dates: September 5 – November 14, 2017

Cast: Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson, Billie Lourd, Alison Pill

Plot: A restaurant owner (Paulson) is left forlorn by the results of the 2016 election and seeks help from a psychiatrist (Jackson) and support from her wife (Pill). Similarly bereft is a college student (Lourd) whose brother (Peters) rejoices.
