‘America’s Got Talent’ 2017: Brandon Rogers’ family allows ‘AGT’ to air heartbreaking audition following tragic death [WATCH]

America’s Got Talent” 2017 ended its Season 12 auditions during Tuesday night’s episode with a heartbreaking performance by Brandon Rogers, a 29-year-old doctor who died in a car accident on June 11. Watch the audition video above. For his audition, Rogers performed a beautiful cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Ribbon in the Sky” and had all four judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel — on their feet. Rogers’ audition was aired with permission from his family.

“On June 11 one of our contestants, Brandon Rogers, tragically passed away in a car accident,” read an on-screen prompt prior to the airing of his “AGT” performance. “At the request of his family we would like to honor his memory by sharing his audition with you.”

The taped piece began with family medicine doctor Rogers calling his mother and saying that he was “nervous” to perform in front of the live studio audience, but his mother insisted that he’d do a “wonderful, wonderful job.” Rogers decided to become a doctor because of a “tough experience” in his life from when he was six years old and doctors had to save his mother’s life.

“I am about to sing in front of all of America,” Rogers said just before hitting the “Americas Got Talent” stage. “I can’t even believe I’m here right now.” Rogers was born October 30, 1987 in Virginia and passed away June 11, 2017.

After his performance Klum smiled, “The doctor is really handsome and the doctor can sing.” Mel B added, “You’re good-looking, tick. You can sing, tick. And the fact that you help people, tick.” Mandel joked that his medical profession was “a waste of time and schooling.” And Cowell remarked, “Your vocal is stunning. You’re sick.” All four judges sent Rogers through to the next round.
