‘America’s Got Talent’ 2017: Evie Clair breaks Dad’s heart singing ‘I Try’ during Judge Cuts 2 [WATCH]

“A lot of things are happening right now, and we don’t really know what’s gonna happen next,” Evie Clair explained to Simon Cowell after she stepped onto the stage for Tuesday’s Judge Cuts 2 episode of “America’s Got Talent” 2017. Clair’s family is currently going through a tough time as her dad has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. How did the judges react to her latest song, a cover of Macy Gray‘s “I Try,” which she performed for her dad? Watch Evie Clair’s video above and then scroll down to see the judges’ comments.

Howie Mandel, a father himself, opened up the critiques by declaring, “When I listen to you, it’s the sound of an angel singing to her daddy. I don’t think you can ask anymore of a performer than to move your heart, and I feel moved. It was beautiful.”

“You just sing with such heart and soul,” said a teary-eyed Mel B. “It actually made me think of my dad, who’s not here with me anymore. It just really, really moved me and it really, really touched me. So thank you for that.”

Guest judge DJ Khaled echoed the sentiments, telling Clair, “It was amazing. You’re beautiful. You touched everybody’s soul and spirit and your family’s gonna be really proud of  you.”

While Heidi Klum admitted that she “really liked it,” she also countered with, “It was not the perfect audition because maybe all of the notes weren’t always perfect. I still remember you and your voice at the end of the day because it is special.”

Cowell concluded the judges’ comments by telling the young singer that she “gave us heart, and that means a lot.” Clair was one of the seven acts to move on to the live shows of “Americas Got Talent” Season 12.
