Ukrainian dance crew Light Balance blew away the audience on Tuesday’s fourth audition episode of “America’s Got Talent,” so much so that host Tyra Banks descended to the judges’ table to slam the Golden Buzzer and send them straight to the live show. Some fans on social media are claiming that Banks wasted her Golden Buzzer by not anointing a young singer, but others are defending her choice of picking something truly original. What do you think? Watch Light Balance’s audition video above and then vote down in our poll below.
Light Balance sets themselves apart from all of the other dance groups on “AGT” by using neon lights on their costumes to choreograph a dance routine with a light show. Performed in the dark to maximum effect, the Ukrainian crew earned yeses from all four judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel — but that wasn’t enough for Banks. “I’m amazed by you guys,” she said when she took to the stage unexpectedly after their hip-hop performance. “I’m feeling you guys so, so much!”
Unlike the other trio of times the Golden Buzzer has been used in Season 12, Light Balance didn’t have a heartbreaking sob story and didn’t leave viewers in tears. Instead they showed true originality, drive, and most of all, talent. While a dance crew has never won “Americas Got Talent,” Japanese dancer Kenichi Ebina did claim the prize in Season 8 for his experimental routines that often used background videos to help him tell his stories.
