On the June 20 episode of “America’s Got Talent” a dance group may have gotten the Golden Buzzer but it was a gospel choir that really raised the roof. Greater Works performed the classic “This Little Light of Mine” and wowed the audience. The group, made up of 44 singers from all around the country, came together as one. Their vocals blended together perfectly while their movements were synchronized. This was even more of an achievement given that they rarely get together in person. Rather, they convene online to rehearse their repertoire.
After head judge Simon Cowell asked if they really thought they could win “Americas Got Talent” Season 12, Greater Works’ head conductor smiled and replied, “I believe we will.” Cowell was eager to hear them sing as he readily admitted, “I love choirs, so I really hope you do well.” After they made a joyful noise, he jumped to his feet as did his fellow judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B.
Cowell kicked off their comments by declaring their performance to be “pretty amazing,” while Mel B enthused, “That just hit me in every single way. It was everything, everything and more.” Mandel singled on the soloist and then praised the group as a whole with the wry observation, “You took this Jew to church.” And Klum concluded, “In the five years that I’ve been sitting in this chair, this has been in my eyes, in my ears, the best choir we have had.”
Do you think Greater Works can win? While a singing group has never won, there have been five individual singers to prevail, including last year’s Grace VanderWaal. See all the “AGT” winners in our photo gallery below.
