Benedict Cumberbatch won an Emmy for playing Sherlock Holmes and mind reader Colin Cloud could well win “America’s Got Talent” by emulating the fictional detective. This criminal profiler from Scotland dazzled the judges on Tuesday’s episode of the show with his uncanny ability to read minds.
He first tested his mettle by picking out people in the audience and revealing what they did for a living: a teacher, a police officer and so on. Cloud then enlisted the help of new host Tyra Banks who joined him onstage. After she was seated on a box, he handed her a rolled up piece of paper. He then left the stage to give judge Howie Mandel a coin, which he was directed to place behind his back. Cloud told him correctly which hand he had it in.
Cloud then turned to the audience and, after dividing them in three, had them shout out a color, an animal and a name respectively — the result was a white cat called Oscar. He then had each of the other judges – Heidi Klum, Mel B and Simon Cowell — hold the coin in turn and think of one of these audience supplied words. Once again, Cloud was able to tell each in which hand they were holding the coin.
To close, he had Banks read the paper and follow the instructions which had her open the box on which she had been sitting. Inside, was a white cat wearing a collar that had the name Oscar on its tag.
The four judges were wowed. Mandel enthused, “That was truly amazing” while Mel B declared, “You were mesmerizing” and Klum added, “You’re fantastic.” The last word was left to Cowell, who was quite taken with the cat and told Cloud, “We can take over the world.”
