The live shows of “America’s Got Talent” 2017 continued this week with 12 acts performing Tuesday night during the Quarterfinals 3 episode. “AGT” viewers voted overnight for their favorites, and Wednesday’s Live Results 3 episode revealed which seven acts advanced to the Semifinals and which five acts were eliminated. Former “AGT” standouts Mat Franco, Piff the Magic Dragon and Jon Dorenbos were also on hand for special live performances at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
In the event you missed the episode (or simply didn’t want to sit through an hour of reality TV padding), you can check out our minute-by-minute “Americas Got Talent” Live Results 3 recap below. 8:00 p.m. — The final live results show of Season 12’s Quarterfinals has begun! As a refresher, the 12 acts who performed last night were gospel choir Greater Works, salsa dance duo Junior & Emily Alabi, vocal group Final Draft, dancer Oscar Hernandez, singer Angelina Green, mentalist Colin Cloud, singer Mike Yung, videomapping act Oskar and Gaspar, dog act Sara and Hero, singer-songwriter/guitarist Chase Goehring, acrobatic dance group Diavolo and singer Kechi.
8:02 p.m. — Now for the big recap of last night. Love seeing the dedicated passion of these acts behind the scenes. These guys are pouring their hearts and souls into this competition. Also there’s a lot of focus on Cowell’s chest hair in this thing. Anyway.
8:08 p.m. — Time for the big announcement of the sixth, seventh and eighth placers. Tyra Banks announces that Angelina Green, Colin Cloud and Greater Works will be available to vote for in the Dunkin’ Save. One will be saved by the public, while the other two will be voted on between the four judges. Yikes, didn’t think Greater Works would sink this low!
8:13 p.m. — The vote is real nail-biter. All within a few percentages of each other. You better vote! Now we’re seeing a recap of what went down in the “Dunkin’ Lounge,” the green room where everyone gathers after the show. It’s mostly people dancing and screaming and occasional glimpses of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.
8:15 p.m. — Results time. Diavolo and Oskar and Gaspar have been called forward. Banks reveals the first act going to the Semifinals is Diavolo! They thank America for believing in them. Congrats guys, excited to see you take it to the next level!
8:18 p.m. — Final Draft and Kechi are next up. This one seems pretty obvious, no offense Final Draft. America has indeed voted to send Kechi through to the Semfinals! Kechi is a true inspiration and now she’s crying and now we’re all crying. Kechi is overwhelmed. She never dreamt she could make it this far. Howie Mandel says America “went towards the light” by voting for her.
8:20 p.m. — Season 11 finalist Jon Dorenbos is performing some card tricks outside the studio. They involve cards and footballs and — would you look at that — a card stuck inside a football!
8:26 p.m. — Banks notes that America loves its magic (a sign of Colin Cloud success later?) and announces Season 9 winner Mat Franco, a magician, will be displaying his talents next. Franco pours out liquid from a carton and it transitions from orange juice to wine to water to beer to lemonade! How is he doing this? He brings the glasses of various liquids to the judges. They each take a glass and drink it up. He then opens up the carton and there’s nothing in it! This is too cool.
8:35 p.m. — Five places left. Let’s do this. Chase Goehring vs. Mike Yung. Yung already looks devastated, like he knows what’s coming. But wait! There’s a twist! Banks announces both of them have advanced to the Semifinals! They both have a lot of respect for each other so it’s cool to see them so happy for the other.
8:37 p.m. — More results. Oscar Hernandez, Junior & Emily and Sara and Hero are up next. Banks reveals that the act going to the Semifinals is Sara and Hero! Hero is just straight up chilling. You just made the Semifinals, Hero! A little sad to see Hernandez and Junior & Emily go home, though.
8:40 p.m. — Now we have a segment feature Marlon Wayans joining Dorenbos outside the studio. Wayans gives Dorenbos a dollar bill, who magically turns it into a $50, and then a $100. Um, excuse me, I’m next in line!
8:45 p.m. — Another magic act! We have Piff the Magic Dragon from Season 10 here dressed up in his signature dragon suit, with assistance from Heidi Klum. His dog, Mr. Piffles, is tasked with drawing a giraffe wearing underwear in Paris, from the judges’ suggestions. He is then tasked with writing the giraffe’s name from Klum’s suggestion and he does, it’s Gene the Giraffe! This guy is hilarious.
8:50 p.m. — Let’s get down to business. It’s time to reveal who won the Dunkin’ Save and will be moving on live to the Semifinals. Banks announces it has been the closest vote of the season. And … it’s Colin Cloud! Magic is ruling tonight, isn’t it? He says he is “astonished” by this result. Klum warns him, “No knives next time!”
8:51 p.m. — Angelina Green and Greater Works are left. Green says she’s feeling grateful to have gotten to this point in the competition and wants to show her voice to the world. DaNell Daymon of Greater Works is honored to be here. And now the judges’ votes await. I’m really not sure which way they’ll go. Green is a sympathetic figure, but are there too many female child singers in the Semifinals already? Will the judges value the variety Greater Works provides?
8:57 p.m. — It’s the moment of truth. Banks announces the Semifinalists performing next week are Darci Lynne, Billy and Emily England, Mandy Harvey, Preacher Lawson, Yoli Mayor, Eric Jones, Evie Clair, Merrick Hanna, Johnny Manuel and Sara and Hero!
8:58 p.m. — Mel B picks Greater Works, while Klum sticks with her Golden Buzzer pick, Green. Cowell feels strongly about both acts but he votes for Greater Works. Mandel picks Greater Works, clinching them for the Semifinals! Hooray!
9:00 p.m. — That was a stressful night. See you next week for Semifinals!
