On Tuesday, Angelina Jolie spoke for the first time about her divorce from Brad Pitt and the effect of the split on their six children. Speaking to George Stephanopoulos on “Good Morning America,” the Oscar-winning actress revealed that she and her estranged husband are “focusing on the health of our family so we will be stronger when we come out of this.”
She made this rare public appearance to promote her new Netflix film, “First They Killed My Father,” which she adapted from Loung Ung‘s 2000 memoir of the same name about growing up in war-torn Cambodia. Speaking from the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh,Jolie revealed, “this country means a great deal to me, this country has been through so much.” As she explained, “This war affected every single individual here, and I wanted to understand myself.” One of her children, Maddox, is Cambodian by birth, and she says he was the one who encouraged her to make this movie as he wanted to know more about his heritage.
As for making more movies, this multi-hyphenate talent says that for now, her primary job is being mother to her brood. But, she readily admits, it can be overwhelming at times to be a single parent. “Usually, I just wake up trying to figure out who’s going to get the dog out, who’s going to start the pancakes and did anybody brush their teeth.”
