‘Bates Motel’ episode 3 preview: ‘Bad Blood’ features family dinner with Norman, ‘Norma’ and Chick

The third episode of this final season of “Bates Motel” is appropriately titled “Bad Blood.” The previous episode left off deep inside the Bates’ residence in the notorious fruit cellar where Norman (Freddie Highmore) keeps his dead mother’s (Vera Farmiga) body. Both Norma’s brother Caleb (Kenny Johnson) and the handyman Chick (Ryan Hurst) have discovered Norma’s preserved corpse. Caleb was quickly dealt with by Norman (dressed as Norma) with a strong blow to the head while Chick was allowed to live. Watch the preview trailer for “Bates Motel” Season 5, Episode 3 above.

The promo indicates that Chick has been invited to dine with the Bates and while Norman thinks it is both he and his mother who are hosting the family dinner, Chick seems quite aware that he is dining alone with just Norman. Chick was revealed to be taking detailed notes on Norman and his dead mother so one can assume from the trailer that he is playing along in order to continue to get information from Norman.

Further on in the trailer Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) is seen somewhere in a dark outdoors setting, so apparently he has been released from prison and has returned to White Pine Bay to avenge Norma’s murder. Norma then asks for someone to be murdered and fires a gun outside the motel. Since in reality Norman is doing all the killing it could be Romero, Caleb or even Chick that “Norma” is shooting at.

Caleb is seen toward the end of the video caressing the corpse of his sister, but the quick edit of the trailer seems to reveal Norman as Norma stepping into the picture to deal with him. Norman is aware that Caleb raped Norma in her youth, so it seems logical that Norman would want to dispose of her attacker. What do you think of the final season of “Bates Motel” so far?
