On Sunday night, March 5, Disney premiered the official music video for “Beauty and the Beast,” the title song from the live action musical set to be released on March 17. It’s performed by Ariana Grande and John Legend. Watch it above.
“Beauty and the Beast” was originally written for the 1991 animated film by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, who won the Oscar for Best Original Song for the composition. It was performed in the original film by Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Potts, but it was more famously recorded as a duet between Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson that became a top-10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and earned Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1993. It lost both of those awards to Eric Clapton‘s “Tears in Heaven,” but it nevertheless won awards for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Visual Media Song.
The live-action version of the film stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast and Luke Evans as Gaston. In addition to the title tune, it features the rest of the songs from the original film, as well as new songs by Menken and Tim Rice (“Aladdin,” “The Lion King”).
