Billboard Hot 100: DJ Khaled debuts at number-one with help from Justin Bieber and Chance the Rapper

For months Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” was an immovable object at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart, but since it relinquished the number-one spot there has been a new chart-topper every week, and this week is no exception. There’s a brand new leader on the chart dated May 20, and it’s brand new to the entire chart: DJ Khaled‘s “I’m the One” enjoys a number-one debut with help from featured artists Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne.

The appropriately titled “I’m the One” is the first number-one hit of DJ Khaled’s career. It’s the fourth for Bieber, the third for Lil Wayne, the first for Quavo as a solo artist and the first for Chance. And it’s only the 28th number-one debut in the history of the Hot 100 chart. The last song to top the chart in its very first week was none other than Sheeran’s “Shape of You” back in January.

Last week’s number-one hit, “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars, is back down to the runner-up position. The chart-topper from two weeks ago, Kendrick Lamar‘s “Humble,” slips to number-four, and Sheeran’s “Shape of You” is down to number-five.

Bieber has an additional entry in the top five: “Despacito” with Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, which rises this week to number-three, a new peak position for that single. Holding steady at number-six is “Something Just Like This by The Chainsmokers featuring Coldplay, which gives Chainsmokers their 53rd consecutive week in the top 10 — that’s the second longest run for any artist, but they’ve got a while to go before they catch Katy Perry‘s all-time record of 69 straight weeks in the top 10.
