Miley Cyrus stole the show at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards when she performed her change-of-pace new single “Malibu.” Penned as an ode to her finace Liam Hemsworth, Cyrus delivered this plaintive plea of love against a backdrop of images drawn from the “Malibu” video. (Watch above)
This tune, which she co-wrote with long-time collaborator Oren Yoel, is sure to be in contention at next year’s Billboard Music Awards. It has raced up the charts since it was released on May 11. This track will be featured on her sixth studio album, which is due out in October.
Three years ago, Cyrus was the belle of the Billboard Music Awards, winning both Top Streaming Artist and Top Streaming Song for the single “Wrecking Ball” from her chart-topping fourth album “Bangerz.” While that tune (and accompanying video) redefined this one-time Disney star as a sultry singer, “Malibu” is a return to her country roots. Prior to her performance on Sunday, her father Billy Ray Cyrus sang her praises.
