Chelsea Handler (‘Chelsea’) proclaims her responsibility ‘to go after’ Donald Trump and ‘hold him accountable’ [EXCLUSIVE VIDEO]

“I never believed he would be elected,” proclaims “Chelsea” host Chelsea Handler about Donald Trump as the new U.S. President she skewers regularly on her variety talk series.” In our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video above), she adds, “You feel responsibility to your viewers and to yourself as an adult to go after him, to hold him accountable, to make sure everybody knows how you can complain and speak up for your rights, to use your voice. The galvanization that his election has caused is huge and can’t be ignored. There hasn’t been a movement like this in a long time.”

Regarding the actual election day she says, “I was very surprised. All of us were at my show. We watched it go down together. It’s a scary time, but you have to be hopeful. You have to take the piss and make fun that this man has been elected to run the United States of America, and he really can’t complete a sentence.”

Handler is mid-way through the second season of her talk show “Chelsea.” She explains that making a show for Netflix has given her “lax supervision to do whatever I want in my own time frame. To feed the audience the celebrities they are interested in seeing, but also feed them with information that we really need to be informed about right now. It’s a really sensitive time. If you are not using your platform for that reason then it’s a little irresponsible.”

In making the show Handler admits, “I feel strongly that you can combine the serious and comedy. I’ve been happy to take advantage of that. I come from a comedy background so I want everything to be funny. It’s hard for me to go seven minutes without the audience in hysterics. It makes me feel uncomfortable, but I think the messaging overall is more of an edification for everyone.”
