‘Dancing with the Stars’: Will Erika Jayne overcome ‘Real Housewives’ curse to win the Mirror Ball Trophy?

Dance recording artist and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Erika Jayne joins season 24 of “Dancing With the Stars.” Jayne becomes the fifth “Real Housewife” to join the show after her cast mate Lisa Vanderpump (season 16) and “Real Housewives of Atlanta” alumni NeNe Leakes (season 18), Kim Zolciak-Biermann (season 21) and Kim Fields (season 22). Leakes holds the record as the highest-placing “Housewife,” finishing seventh. Can Jayne go the distance and become the first to win “DWTS”?

The new season starts on March 20, so before she and her competitors hit the dance floor let’s consider the pros and cons.

Top 10 BEST ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Contestants Ever

Erika Jayne’s career as a chart-topping dance artist should help her in executing the dances. The other “Housewives,” apart from Kim Fields, didn’t have the showmanship to really sell their dances, but Jayne might.

Her carefree and fun attitude will also help her gain new fans throughout the season, which will be crucial if she wants to overtake contestants with larger built-in fan bases.

Being paired with pro Gleb Savchenko works in her favor as he will be able to amplify her sex appeal during Latin dances, but also her more regal and elegant side in the ballroom dances like he did with season 23 finalist Jana Kramer.

‘Dancing with the Stars’: The 10 WORST contestants ever

“Real Housewives” curse: As I mentioned above, reality stars, especially those from the “Housewives” franchise, are oftentimes among the first contestants to be eliminated.

Yes, she’s a Billboard-charting artist and reality-show star, but Jayne lacks the name recognition and fan base of several of her “DWTS” cast mates. She’ll have to bring personality and memorable dance routines to make it far.

I think her image of being overtly sexy could hurt her in getting support from Middle-American women who make up much of the viewing audience. International sex symbol Pamela Anderson had a tough time connecting with viewers in season 10 as she was constantly in jeopardy week after week before finishing in sixth place. And when she returned for the all-star competition in season 15 she was the first to go.
