‘Dancing with the Stars’: Frankie Muniz’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ tango was a sexy ‘blockbuster’ [WATCH]

“We are climbing up the leaderboard, which is definitely confidence-inducing, but until I see three 10s there’s obviously still work to do,” said a perfectionist Frankie Muniz on “Dancing with the Stars” after his performance on “Most Memorable Year Night.” He followed last week’s routine with an Argentine tango on “Disney Night” inspired by “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Watch it above.

At first Muniz wasn’t sure he’d be able to pull off the “Pirates” tango. “This is definitely going to be the biggest challenge so far,” he said. “I’m not the sexy guy, I’m the nerd. I don’t play the hunk. I’ve never been in Teen Beat magazine. People don’t hang me on their wall, okay? I’m the funny, awkward kid. I hope to surprise people, but I really think it’s going to take the costume because so far there’s something missing.”

Well, it wasn’t missing for long. Muniz’s tango earned him his highest score of the season by far, the second highest score of the night, and it was damn near perfect, receiving a 9 and two 10s for a total of 29 out of 30. But he didn’t see three 10s, so by his account he’s still got work to do. Still, it’s not bad for a contestant who didn’t think he could be sexy at all.

Judge Bruno Tonioli said, “Frankie, did you get a few tips from Orlando Bloom? You’ve got your first blockbuster!” Carrie Ann Inaba added, “You’ve got some pirate game going on … You nailed it”; she gave them a perfect score despite a slight mistake by Muniz’s pro partner Witney Carson caused by her shoe catching on her costume. And Len Goodman concluded, “That was a proper, swashbuckling routine. You’re not going to be walking the plank.”
