“The freestyle is everything when it comes to winning the Mirror Ball,” said “Dancing with the Stars” pro Lindsay Arnold about the pressure on her to deliver a great routine for her celebrity partner Jordan Fisher during the “DWTS” finals. “Jordan has been so amazing. That’s made it even tougher on us because people expected to see him in the finals. So in this freestyle, we are going full out.” Did their performance live up to the hype? Watch it above.
Judge Bruno Tonioli said, “That really was a sensational, showstopping number, but what I saw that I loved: it seems that you have the dancing DNA of Ben Vereen, Sammy Davis Jr., and Bob Fosse all combined — star power that is limitless, all repackaged for a new generation. You’re a superstar.” Carrie Ann Inaba added, “All I can say is that your star shines so brightly. I cannot wait to see what else you’re going to do. Watching this made me sad — how many more dances do we have to watch, only two more after this? Broken-hearted!”
Len Goodman said, “It was a crackerjack of a number. Brilliant.” And guest judge Julianne Hough concluded, “It was honestly everything but the kitchen sink. You had every dance style. You were doing tricks and flips and everything. We worked together on ‘Grease‘ and you were amazing then, but this show truly has taken you to a whole other level.”
Unsurprisingly, that routine led to a perfect score for Fisher — perfect 10s for a total of 40 out of 40. That was his seventh perfect score of the season, also including the one he received for another dance earlier in the evening. He now ranks third for the most perfect scores in one season. Both Bindi Irwin (season 21) and Laurie Hernandez (season 23) were perfect eight times, and both ended up winning the Mirror Ball Trophy. In fact, no one has ever racked up six or more perfect scores without winning the season. Does that seal the deal for Fisher?
