Mr. T was eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars” on Monday night. He was never the most proficient dancer on the show, but his “Most Memorable Year” routine sent him out on a high note. He and his partner Kym Herjavek performed a waltz to “Amazing Grace” in memory of the year 1995, when he was diagnosed with cancer and found strength in his religious faith. He got the lowest score of the night from the judges, but he won their admiration. Watch his performance above.
Carrie Ann Inaba told him, “Some people may be winning the race with fancy moves and high scores, but you are definitely winning our hearts. Your faith radiated out of you in that dance.” Len Goodman called Mr. T and Herjavek “the A-Team … I admire you more than any other celebrity because you’re right outside your comfort zone and yet you’ve come out and worked hard, and I truly admire you.” Julianne Hough said, “The beauty was in the performance. Your spirit came through. It was breathtaking.” Bruno Tonioli concluded, “Love and respect — you really are a good man, a man with a heart of gold.”
Acknowledging that Mr. T didn’t have the dance capability of his rivals, the judges only scored him 7s for a total of 28 out of 40, but that was nevertheless his highest score of the season and in its own way an “amazing” way to end his run on the show.
