“I’ll make a man out of you,” sang Donny Osmond, who performed that song from the Disney animated film “Mulan” for “Disney Night” on “Dancing with the Stars,” but it could have been re-titled “I’ll Make a Woman Out of You” after Normani Kordei‘s fierce and empowering paso doble with pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy. They received a 9 and three perfect 10s from the judges for a total score of 39 out of 40. That was the highest score of the night and tied as the highest score of the season so far.
“Especially right now, your voice and your dance just showed every little girl out there that you can do anything you want,” said judge Julianne Hough about Kordei’s performance. “Conceptually that was gorgeous, but that did not compromise the content, strength and choreography.” Bruno Tonioli called her “the fierce, all-conquering paso princess — attack, precision, and yet you never lost artistry.” Carrie Ann Inaba exclaimed, “That was epic! … It was perfection.” Len Goodman, the only judge who gave it a 9, was a little more muted in his praise, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t a fan. He said, “I enjoyed the attack and the spirit that you showed, and I really enjoyed what you did.”
