Rashad Jennings and his pro partner Emma Slater gave the best performance Monday night on “Dancing with the Stars” according to the judges. On “Most Memorable Year” night the contestants performed routines inspired by years in their lives that had strong personal significance, and boy did Jennings deliver on that challenge. Watch his performance above.
First Jennings recounted the story of his father’s alcoholism and estrangement, and how Jennings still put his own dreams on hold to care for him after he suffered a stroke and lost a leg due to complications from diabetes. Then Jennings performed a contemporary routine inspired by those emotional events, which ended with him embracing his father in the crowd. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house, especially not at the judges’ table, which rewarded him with a 9 and three perfect 10s for a total of 39 out of 40 — the highest score of the season so far.
“I am mesmerized,” said Bruno Tonioli about the evocative performance. “I was not watching a dance, I was watching two great artists painting one of the most beautiful works of art.” Carrie Ann Inaba added, “I think you missed your calling. You are a born dancer.” Len Goodman said, “I thought it was fantastic. Well done!” And Julianne Hough was nearly speechless: “What you just did I have no words for.”
