This past week on “Dancing with the Stars” Vanessa Lachey’s professional partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, took a mysterious leave of absence. As a result, Alan Bersten, who had been eliminated from the competition with Debbie Gibson last week, filled in on Monday’s “Guilty Pleasures Night.” No specific explanation was given for Maks’s no-show — he took time off last season due to an injury, but that didn’t appear to be the case this time. However, rumors have surfaced that there may have been a conflict between Vanessa and Maks.
Us Weekly reported that Vanessa and Maks have been “playing nice for the cameras,” but have actually been “miserable” together. “Their personalities are very similar so they disagree about everything. They refuse to give into one another,” the source said. There was apparently so much fighting going on between the two of them, that Maks refused to rehearse leading up to this week’s show.
Of course, conflicts between celebs and their pro partners have been known to happen from time to time, as we often see in the clip packages of training for each couple’s routine, but we haven’t been shown any such strife on-camera between Vanessa and Maks. But whether these rumors are true or not the duo is already preparing their next routine. A source told the New York Post, “Maks and Vanessa are returning to rehearsals and will be dancing together on next week’s show.” And Maks recently tweeted, “As you are all aware, I had to leave the show last week to take care of some personal issues. I take full responsibility for my absence and want to apologize to my partner Vanessa. We are both looking forward to dancing for our fans next week!”
So far in the competition, Vanessa and Maks have finished in third place with a score of 21 out of 30 on week one. On the first night of week two, they both tied with Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold as well as Victoria Arlen and Val Chmerkovskiy for first place with a score of 24 out of 30. On the following night, Vanessa Maks finished fourth with a score of 23 out of 30. And on week three this past Monday night, Vanessa was able to tie with Drew Scott and Emma Slater for third place with a score of 23 out of 30 when she was paired with Alan.
Despite their strong track record so far, as of this writing Vanessa and Maks stand in eighth place with 100/1 odds in our predictions while their respective spouses and co-competitors Nick Lachey and Peta Murgatroyd stand in 10th place with the same odds.
